Pictures we like
A perfect example of the kitchen/dining stone wall. Here you can see the pantry entrance, and the colouring for all timber throughout the house (photo courtesy Eldorado Stone). A lovely little turret -- gives an example of how this veneer product looks when applied to a curved surface.
Here's a beautiful example of a kitchen hearth. Pressed metal hood, integrated into the stonework. Another kitchen -- but this is exactly what we need for the fireplace treatment. Note the full-height stonework, the heavy timber beam as the mantle. We'd sit a freestanding woodheater in the fireplace, much like this one.
Once again this is an example of a stone veneer, but with the mortar quite rough and overlapping the stone. Looks nice and "old" -- perhaps better for us than recessed mortar. One of our favorite photos. While we're not going to build the turret out of brick, the shape and the drawbridge are perfect!
Wonderful gothic illustrations from a book we found on eBay! The lancet shape for our windows and doors are typical of gothic architecture. Remarkably, this is a brand new house! The Spanish look isn't for us, but it goes to show how effective the Eldorado Stone veneer can be. Note the rendered walls sitting comfortably next to the stonework.
The picture that started it all: a fairly modern house in Melbourne that made us realise we could build a home that looked old, even if it wasn't. Note the diamond-hatched windows, the dormer, and the turret treatment. The cutest turret we've seen so far. Not exactly for us, but the roofing material and details could be used in our main turret.
